Yangon, April 12 (NationPress) Four Indian nationals ensnared in cyber-scam operations in the Myawaddy area of the Myanmar-Thailand border have been released and transported from Hpa-An to Yangon by authorities in Myanmar, as disclosed by the Embassy of India in Yangon on Saturday.

The four individuals have been transferred to Indian officials and are set to be repatriated to India shortly, following the necessary consular procedures and exit permits.

On Thursday, a total of 32 Indian nationals—victims of the Myawaddy scam networks—were repatriated via Mae Sot in the border region between Myanmar and Thailand.

The Indian Embassy in Yangon has reiterated its warnings against such dubious job offers and highlighted that illegal entry or exit without appropriate border immigration in Myanmar or Thailand can result in future entry bans.

The Government of India has been actively working to secure the release and repatriation of Indian nationals who were misled into accepting fraudulent job offers in various South East Asian nations, including Myanmar. These individuals were coerced into participating in cybercrime and other deceitful activities at scam centers located along the Myanmar-Thailand border, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Last month, the Indian embassies in Myanmar and Thailand collaborated with local authorities to facilitate the return of 283 Indian nationals using an IAF aircraft from Mae Sot in Thailand.

The Government of India wishes to remind the public about the ongoing warnings issued through advisories and social media regarding these rackets. Indian nationals are once again urged to verify the credentials of foreign employers through their missions abroad and to check the backgrounds of recruiting agents and companies before accepting job offers.

Earlier this month, during a meeting with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister of Myanmar, on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed appreciation for the support provided by Myanmar in the rescue and repatriation of Indian nationals from cyber-scam centers along the Myanmar-Thailand border.

Both nations agreed on the necessity of cooperating to combat insurgent activities, transnational crime, and human trafficking along the India-Myanmar border.
