Sanaa, May 25 (NationPress) The Houthi movement from Yemen declared on Sunday that it had fired a hypersonic ballistic missile targeting Ben Gurion Airport located in central Israel. Reports indicate that the missile was intercepted by Israeli defense systems earlier in the day.
Yahya Sarea, the military spokesperson for the Houthis, stated during a broadcast on Houthi-controlled al-Masirah TV, "Our rocket forces executed a significant military operation aimed at Ben Gurion Airport, utilizing a hypersonic ballistic missile."
Sarea further emphasized that the group intends to "maintain a prohibition on air traffic to and from Ben Gurion Airport," noting that past Houthi strikes have led several airlines to delay or reroute their flights to steer clear of missile threats targeting Israel, according to reports from Xinhua.
He cautioned that the Houthis would intensify their military operations unless Israel ceases its assault on the Gaza Strip and lifts the existing blockade.
Earlier, the Israeli defense forces announced on the social media platform X that sirens were activated across Israel following a projectile fired from Yemen.
Israeli army radio later confirmed that the projectile had been intercepted without any reported casualties or damage.
Since November 2023, the Houthi group, which has control over much of northern Yemen, has been targeting Israel and Israeli-affiliated vessels in the Red Sea as a show of solidarity with Palestinians amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
