Kolkata, July 3 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has announced that the legal proceedings and conviction related to one of the incidents of post-poll violence in West Bengal from 2021, involving the rape of a minor girl, have been finalized at a special POCSO court in Kolkata. This marks the first conviction in such cases under the agency's investigation in the state.
The CBI's statement released on Wednesday detailed that a case was registered concerning the rape of a nine-year-old girl in Manikchak, located in the Malda district.
The investigation revealed that the victim, aged around nine, was assaulted by the accused, Rafikul Islam alias Bhelu, a retired school teacher from a state-run institution. This incident occurred on the evening of June 4, 2021, while the girl was playing in the accused's mango orchard.
The accused allegedly lured the minor with money before committing the crime.

Earlier the same day, the CBI disclosed that they had filed a supplementary charge sheet at a special court in Kolkata on June 20, identifying 18 additional suspects, including one legislator and two councillors, related to the case of BJP worker Abhijit Sarkar in the aftermath of the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.
With the inclusion of these 18 additional accused, the total count of suspects in the case has now reached 38.
